RadiantFoil.com was founded by Art
Carlson in 2004 and is located in Ketchum, ID.
Recently the Foil Team
participated in the Sustainability Conference at the Sun Valley
Resort. The attendees were challenged to take responsibility for
improving energy use and the consumption of materials. Our message
was clear and simple. No other building, energy management,
technique can equal the performance of FOIL. Energy savings from
40-80% over conventional techniques used to insulate.

School house project. The Picture above tells all. this group of
HS students works afternoons as part of a program to heach "hands
ON" building techniques. The local builders and trades "pitch" in
to assist with the know how, and the students take over and BUILD
the House! This is one special program... with some very special
students...! BTW: Carey ID may be Population 1,000; so this
student team is all things to all of the community. Pictured is
the Football team, the Basketball team and the building team. It

The Story:
Art and
Family moved to Ketchum to build the family "Dream Home".. The
engineer in Art took over and started the process of finding and
evaluating building techniques and materials that are:
- Energy effective and
efficient
- Affordable
- Compliment attractive design, or
don't get in the way!
- Reduce energy costs over the life of
the building!
- AND simple enough for Art to handle
and install... He is the builder!
The project started with a full
log home design. Full log morphed to "1/2 log siding" when the
attractiveness of foil entered the "equation". The building cost was
reduced, the cost of the roof system was significantly reduced, the
cost of the heating system was significantly reduced; and the
aesthetics were unchanged or improved! ( The picture above is an
interior wall with the first layer of foil, and the log trim), Once
radiant barrier and vapor barriers were introduced the whole project
changed.. The neighbors with a similar 3000 square ft. home spend
about $300-350+ in the cold months to heat their second homes. Our
home will require about $100-140 to heat in the cold months.
Just to get a feel for how effective this is: a 15 year mortgage is
the same cost per month as a 30 year mortgage.. That is 15 years
